“Be perfect, just as your heavenly Father is perfect.”
This is ‘pure’ and real gospel today, seventh Sunday of ordinary time, cycle A. Love our enemies… be perfect…
I can imagine Fr. Palau going up to the mountains, in the top of Es Vedrà… in distress because he feels that he can offend the Church, that there is the possibility to stop loving her. I can imagine a world worrying only for the things of God and of neighbors… how beautiful it could be!!! As today’s youth
saying: Sana all!
“Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your heavenly Father…”. In the Spanish version it will add more: “Love your enemies, do good to those who detest you and pray for…”. To be children of the heavenly Father has a price to pay then: to love all… but how
difficult sometimes it is!
In the gospel, Jesus goes beyond the law and its prescriptions. That’s why it is so difficult to fulfill it!
Apparently, it sounds like impossible, because who can be perfect as the Father in heaven? The comparison is too high!
Fr. Palau will give us the rule to be perfect, to be one, united with the Church… to be God by participation. “Take care of her – the militant Church- wipe away her tears, console her in her afflictions, lighten her sorrows; all that you do for her on earth, she will return and do for you in heaven” (MR 1, 31);
in a way, Francisco Palau gives us a ‘way’ to follow to practice today’s gospel.
