“For they did not yet understand the Scripture that he had to rise from the dead” (Jn 20, 9).
Sometimes we make ourselves slow to understand. Year after year we celebrate the Easter mystery, but it is hard for us to be aware of it. We just need to develop faith and love, which is not easy. The Church told to Palau: “Know that when I am present in you by faith, you look at me and call me, you steal all the affects of my heart and you make me slave of your love, in the same way that when I am present myself in you by faith I steal yours with my beauty” (MR 21, 12). It is really faith what we need to exercise.
In the same way we cannot mathematically understand the mystery of passion, dead and resurrection of Jesus; we need to reinforce our faith toward this, which is the mystery of our salvation.
It is easier for us to catch the samples of resurrection in ordinary life: a person who forgives after being betrayed, a mother who gives her food to her child because it is still hungry, someone who speaks well about everyone, or find reasons to defend always a sinner, a priest who lives a life of poverty, a sister who is dedicated always, a tax collector who is honest…
The beauty of the Gospel today is that it is the best Good News ever announced: Jesus is risen from the dead!
Jesus is our Hope, the gospel brings us Hope. In this jubilee year we are called to journey in hope, to be missionaries of hope, like Mary Magdalene in the gospel. Let us allow ourselves to be questioned by the Gospel of John today: Do we believe in the resurrection of Jesus? How is it influencing our commitment? Are we messengers of Hope? Is our life a living example of resurrected person?
Happy Easter 2025 for all!
