In the footsteps of Palau

Eighth Day  November 5

Footprints of the Gospel

We let these words of Father Palau echo within us:

“My mission is to proclaim to the people that you are infinitely beautiful and loveable, and to tell them to love you.” MR 12,2

“Apostolic life: preaching. I will do it in the way I understand I have to do it. I must go from one end of Spain to the other and work with all my strength for the salvation of souls, wherever the way is open.” Letter 57,3

Scripture Text: Mk 16: 15-20

And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the good news to the whole creation. The one who believes and is baptized will be saved; but the one who does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will accompany those who believe: by using my name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes in their hands, and if they drink any deadly thing, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

So then the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God. And they went out and proclaimed the good news everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the message by the signs that accompanied it.

Reflection:

The Gospel is Good News yesterday, today and forever. It is a proclamation and kerygma, it is a reflection of the Beloved Church of Palau, it is a living treasure in each person and it is a commitment to life and mission at all times and places. It must be done “in the way that I understand I must do it” Father Palau tells us. It is not necessary to proclaim the Good News it in an extraordinary manner, but rather in the simplicity and mercy of a gesture extended to another person. We must be the fire that lights other fires: “Go forth and proclaim the Good News.” For further reflection: What is the good news that I can share today as a living Gospel?

We pray together:

“Whatever you do to my sick members you do to me and I am grateful to you for it.” MR 9,5

  • Oh God our Father and Mother, who created man in your image and likeness, do not allow us to be indifferent in the face of so much pain caused by wars, immigration, kidnappings, human trafficking and all kinds of violence. We pray to the Lord.
  • For all families, that they may have the means to care for and bring up their children, according to the Gospel values, be able to live in unity, to care for the elderly and the most vulnerable. We pray to the Lord.
  • For missionaries who work in red-light districts of the world, that the Lord may arm them with passion for his kingdom and the courage to give their lives in testimony of the faith. We pray to the Lord.

In this day of the novena, let us ask for the intercession of Francisco Palau, that we may be women and men who walk in synodality, and having experienced the Good News in our lives, may we proclaim that same Gospel every day.

Father Palau Prayer

Almighty and merciful God and Father: we thank and bless you for instilling in the heart of Blessed Francisco Palau a singular love for the Church, the Mystical Body of Christ, be revealing to him her beauty as illustrated in Mary, and inspiring him to serve her through prayer and apostolic activity. Grant us his prompt canonization in the Church and the special grace we are asking through his intercession. Through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
