Faith is power, the divine power that operates where there is trust and surrender but will not insist if there is resistance.
The gospel of this Sunday is the representation of rejection experienced by the Lord in His hometown. On the sabbath He taught in the synagogue. The first reaction is the great expression of marvel and wonder. “Where did this Man get all this? What is this wisdom that has been given to Him ? What deeds of power are being made by Him?” (Mk 6.2). But this feeling quickly vanishes . The feelings of wonder and amazement got distorted to feelings of contempt, condemnation and outright rejection. The people identified Jesus as the carpenter. They took offense at Jesus and, consequently, He did not perform many miracles there. He only laid his hands on few sick in order to heal them. Jesus was surprised at their lack of faith.
In our daily life, how often do we reject the precious and important people and aspects of life due to our ignorance ? Let’s ask ourself, what was the cause of this sudden and dramatic change of mood of the people. It happened simply because Jesus was just one of them and they considered Him an ordinary person. If we had been there, what would have been our reaction? The same as the people in the town of Jesus? Do we think we would have a reaction different as the people of the time of Jesus? Or we are the same?
In our life, do we recognize the miracles Jesus did to us ? Do we feel every moment the presence of Jesus? Our ongoing conversation happens in the ordinariness of our everyday life. In our faith journey ,there are times when we tend to associate God’s presence with the extraordinary events, but God reveals himself even in the most ordinary event of our daily life. Like the people in today’s Gospel, it seems that we find it difficult to feel God’s presence in the ordinary events. To recognize Him, we need eyes of faith in order to see Him in the ordinary event in our life
Lord we pray that we may know how to recognize your presence in the ordinary encounter and notice the ways through which you desire to nourish and give us life. We feel invited to open our eyes and to recognize the worth and preciousness of God’s grace that we have been blessed with. Because each of us personally, as family, as a community and as a Church have been blessed and graced with immense favors and kindness from the Lord.
