NEVERENDING STORY: SOLEMNITY OF CHRIST THE KING

Power is a dangerous thing. Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely, at least that was the opinion of the ancient philosophers, of those who still were making efforts to think and learn from the history. We all exercise power and authority is bigger or smaller scale. We all make decisions that affect life of other people. We have power to love or to hate, to forgive or to keep resenting, to give love or to keep it for ourselves. This power was given to us, we needn’t to ask for it. It is our decision if we will exercise this kind of power or just live day by day, tossed by the waters of daily events, as if nothing depended on us.

This kind of power and kingship is not from this world. In this world, power means position, money, influence, dependence. Power means that you have people who fight for you because they have to, they are being paid for it or are forced by fear of consequences. In God’s kingdom, power means to fight for what is right because we believe in it, out of our deepest convictions. We fight for what we believe because we received so much love and forgiveness that only to love and to forgive others seems the correct way of paying back. The longer we live, the more we realize that this love is made of sacrifices and faithfulness we show every day, without marching with enormous flags, but living out day by day our commitments to God and our neighbor. This is the way we build the kingdom of God that will never end, just as love is the neverending story and cannot pass away. This Kingdom is among us, is in us, whenever we decide to love and forgive above of all the pain we might have experienced.
